History
•In the year 1869 Portsmouth and Gosport School of Science and Art founded.

Teaching standards
•Portsmouth rates top in National Student Survey with an overall satisfaction rating of 85 per cent placing it in top 30 mainstream English universities for the overall satisfaction. The university won highest possible rating in Quality Assurance Agency audit.
•More than 600 radiographers, medical technologists, paramedics, pharmacists, clinicians and social workers graduate from University each year.
Research standards
•In the European Studies, 100 per cent of submitted research was graded internationally excellent or world leading.
•In Applied Mathematics, where the Institute of Cosmology & Gravitation does internationally renowned research in cosmology, Portsmouth is equal first with the Cambridge, Durham and Oxford, with 75 per cent of its research internationally excellent and world-leading. Funding has now increased by nearly 80 per cent.

Student facilities, including library and computing
•Award winning library in the central location, providing 394,000 volumes, 22,187 periodicals, around 900 study places zoned for quiet, silent and group study, short loan collection; staff to help on each floor, and specialist help from Faculty Librarians; extensive access to the electronic resources both on and off campus, comprising over 85,000 e-books.
