Automated Guided Vehicle

Though robot as a material handling unit is convenient when the distances to be traversed are small, it will not be suitable if the material need to be moved over longer distances. For this purpose, normally an automated guided vehicle (AGV) is used. A typical AGV is illustrated in Figure 12. Depending upon the type of material that need to be transported, a large variety of AGV styles are available.
