Advantages of Welding:
(a) It is silent, safe and fast; the joints have better appearance.
(b) Many rigid than riveted joints, as there are no holes in the member or no extra gusset plates needed for them.
(c) The effectiveness of the joint is more; it permits design based on support continuity and joint rigidity.
(d) The process of joining as well as the resulting structure is more economical. Its weight is also less.
However, there are certain disadvantages:
(a) It needs better expertise from the welding team;
(b) Inspection of joints is not easy;
(c) There are potential of fatigue stresses and brittle failure.
