Flame Hardening

In essence, it is a localised hardening. It contain in heating an area to be surface hardened through oxyacetylene followed by abrupt cooling by water spray. The surface is heated up to critical temperature & quenched with water spray as soon as this temperature is attained. The process can be automated by permitting oxyacetylene flame ring and water nozzle to move along the length. For large jobs stationary flames are utilized. In an alternative method the long job might move through a flame ring at predetermined speed and quenched by water ring. The hardened depth might be controlled easily by adjusting heating time, the temperature of flame and the water spray.
