Process File System

This file system holds a list of active processes, named according to the process number, in the /proc directory.

The /proc file system is not an original file system; it is a virtual file system without the physical presence in which a disk, in that the information about all the active process in the system are stored.

This File System holds everything which happens in Unix. Each single program which is running, the whole contents of memory, the internal workings of the kernel-all the processes presently running on the system are contained in the /proc file system. proc is an contraction for process.
