Weight Estimation Module

This module will aid the designer to estimate the weight of casting, core-making and moulding material. It will also determine sand to metal ratio.

Any casting can be broken down into a series of simple shapes like Cuboids, Plates, Cylinders, Rings, Wedges and Cones. Once the dimensions of the constituent shape elements are identified, the volume and weight of each element are automatically calculated by the CAPP system. The weight estimation module provides a library of standard shape elements to choose from. Mathematical formulae for these shape elements are implemented in the CAPP system to help in the estimation of weight of a casting.

To determine the weight of the part, volume and density of work material is required. Database contains material specification layer which contains the metal density as well as the data on alloys, core or molding mixtures.
