Balls are commonly metallic in metallic bodies along with trim (seats) generates from elastomeric (elastic materials resembling rubber) materials. A Plastic construction is also available.

The resilient seats for ball valves are made from several elastomeric materials. The most general seat materials are TFE (teflon), filled TFE, Nylon, Neoprene, Buna-N, and combinations of these materials. Since of the elastomeric materials, those valves cannot be used at elevated temperatures. Care must be used within the selection of the seat material to ensure in which it compatible along with the materials is being handled through the valve.
