Surface Treatment

The surface treatment consists of application of layer of water repellent substances or compounds on these surfaces by that moisture enter. The use of water repellent metallic soaps like as calcium and stearates and aluminium oletes are much effectual against rain water penetration. Pointing and plastering of the exposed surfaces must be finished carefully using water proofing agents such as potassium or sodium silicates, zinc sulphates or aluminium, barium hydroxide and magnesium sulphates etc. It should be remember that surface treatment is effective only while the moisture is superficial and is not under pressure. Many times, exposed stone or brick wall face might be sprayed along with water repellent solutions.
