The English System:
In the English or foot-pound-second (fps) system, the base units are the foot (around 30.5 centimeters), the pound (equal to around 2.2 kilograms in the gravitational field at the Earth's surface), the second, the degree Fahrenheit (where water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees at standard sea-level atmospheric pressure), the candela, the ampere, and the mole. The second, the candela, the ampere, and the mole are similar in fps as they are in SI.
Base Units in SI:
In all systems of measurement, the base units are those from which all others can be derived. Base units symbolize some of the most elementary phenomena or properties we examine in nature.
