The table which is shown below illustrates conversions for quantities in base SI units to other ordinary schemes. In the table below and in any expression of quantity in some units, the coefficient is the number by which the power of 10 is multiplied.
This is by no means an absolute table. It is remarkable how many various units exist; for illustration, you may someday want to know how many bushels there are in a cubic kilometer! Few units seem to have been devised out of whimsy, as when the inventors knew the confusion and consternation their afterward use would cause.
