Rayleigh's Method:

This is a modified energy method. It might be noted down that in a conservative system potential energy is maximum while kinetic energy is minimum and vice-versa. So, equating maximum kinetic energy having maximum potential energy.

 ∴         1 /2 m (x' max) 2 = 1/2 k (x'max) 2

and

∴               xmax = X

               ½ m ( X w)2  = ½  k X 2
