Ladder Scaffolding or Patented Scaffolding

This is a modification over double scaffolding and could be simply assembled (Figure 20). Now-a-days, various patent ladder scaffoldings are available in the market. In this category, the working platforms are supported on brackets (along with inner row of standards), that could be adjusted to any desired height. The several components of the scaffold are fastened to each other through means of bolts and screws.

Such patented scaffoldings are extremely appropriate for light works like as exterior walls' paintings and decoration. Sometimes, the ladder scaffolding is given with additional cross-pieces that could be tied to windows for stability.

Cantilever or Needle Scaffolding

The use of these categories of scaffolding becomes essential where:

(a)       It is not probable to fix the standards into the ground in the common manner,

(b)       The scaffolding is to be given on the side of a busy street without obstructing the traffic on road, and

(c)       The scaffolding is needed for construction of upper story of a tall building.

In this, framework while of single scaffolding type or double scaffolding type is supported through a series of cantilevers or needle beams (that is timber beams projecting from wall) passing by window openings or through holes in the wall. In Figure 21, two instead of supporting the projecting end are display. In first alternative, the needles are supported at floor levels inside through means of plate and wedges, and outside projecting end is strutted to the window sills or cornices or string courses etc. In the second alternative (shown through dotted lines), the projecting beams are strutted inside on floors by the openings. The strut ends on floors are held in position through means of blocks or appropriate devices. The joints among the inclined strut and the needle are clamped through means of dogs.
