Side Milling Cutters

These are similar to plain milling cutters but have teeth on the periphery as well as on the sides. They are used for slotting, straddle milling and face milling. The diameter of the cutter ranges from 50 to 200 mm, width ranging from 5 to 32 mm. They are classified as:

1. Plain milling cutters have straight teeth on periphery and both sides of the tool.

2. Half Side Milling Cutters have straight helical teeth on its circumference and on one of its sides only. It is mainly used for straddle milling operations.

3. Staggered Tooth Side Milling Cutters have alternate teeth with opposite helix angle. They are used for deep slots and heavy duty milling.
