Low Heat Portland Cement:
Percentages of tri-calcium silicate (C3S) and tri-calcium aluminate (C3A) are lower in this cement than OPC and RHPC while that of di-calcium silicate (C2S) is higher. This results in a slower rate of reaction, lower evolution of heat of hydration and lower early strength. Other than the ultimate strength remains more or less unaffected.
Following are the uses of low heat portland cement:
(a) This cement is used only in huge mass concrete works such as dams, bridges, abutments, retaining walls, etc.
(b) It is also used within works where the rate of heat of generation must be kept to minimum.
