In case of multi cylinder engine there shall be more expansion strokes. For instance, in the case of three cylinder engine, there shall be three expansion strokes in each of cycle. In 4 cylinder 4-strokes engine there shall be four expansion strokes. Thus, in multi cylinder engine there shall be lesser variation in turning moment as compared to single cylinder engine and as a result there is expected to be less variation in speed. The turning moment diagram for a multi cylinder engine is expected to be as illustrated in Figure. The variation in the turning moment decreases with the increase in the number of cylinders.
