The internal structure of a HRM or personnel department is based on several factors such like nature and size of the organisation, managerial preference to structure operations visibly, external forces etc. Small firms have a single section only, headed by personnel officer taking care of the whole thing. Medium sized firms can create a separate personnel department with experts in the personnel field supported by administrative staff. In big firms the structure of a personnel department can take various shapes, based on organisational resources, competitive pressures and whole employee strength.
