HRM Department in Line Organisation

Line structure is more frequent in small firms. In this structure power flows in a direct line from supervisors to subordinates. Each of the employees knows who his bigger is and who has the authority to issue orders. Managers have complete authority (line authority) in their areas of operation and are responsible for concluding results. Line authority implies the right to give orders and to have decisions implemented. The "one-man- one-boss" principle is strictly observed. Authority relationships are visible and there is firm discipline as persons working at lower levels may have access to higher level officers just through their immediate bosses.
