A steel specimen represents upper yield point at 210 MPa and lower yields point at200 MPa. If modulus of elasticity, E, for steel is 210 × 103 MPa. Compute modulus of resilience.
Solution
Modulus of resilience = σ2Y/2E
Here, σY is yield strength. σY consequent to lower yield point. Thus σY = 200 MPa
∴ Modulus of resilience =((200)2 × (106 )2) / 2 × 210 × 103 × 106 N-m/m3
Here note that MPa = Pa × 106 = (N/m2 (10)6))
∴ Modulus resilience = 95.24 × 104 N-m/m3
Otherwise 95.24 × 10-3 N-mm/mm3
