Hermaphrodite Caliper
It is a caliper comprising one straight leg and another bent leg. The tip is adjustable for length. A straight leg has a point that is why it can be employed to scribe lines parallel to an edge or shoulder. It can as well used to locate the centers of round work-pieces. The hermaphrodite caliper is displayed in diagram.

To set this tool, place bent leg on the end of a ruler and adjust till the pointed leg is at the desired graduation. The bent leg is positioned against the round work-piece and arc is marked at the end of work-piece. The tangent marks can be laid out through adjusting the leg spacing. And the centre of work-piece can be positioned by marking four arcs at 90°.
