Summary
Laying out involves marking the center point, circles, straight lines, arcs on surface of work-piece to point out the position of hole to be drilled or the amount of material to be removed through shaping or milling machine. These marks particular shape, size and features of work-piece. Scriber, divider, surface plate, prick punch, squares, calipers, center punch etc. are utilized for layout purpose. Surface plate gives accurate reference plane. Hermaphrodite caliper is employed to scribe lines parallel to an edge and to locate the centers of round work-pieces. The bevel protractor is used to layout and test the angle. Combination set is utilized for laying out straight line. Center head can be utilized for locating centers of round in shape, square and octagonal stock. Angle plate is utilized to hold the work-piece parallel and at right angle to a surface. C - Clamps are used to tie the work-piece to an angle plate or drill press table. V-blocks are utilized to hold the work-piece firmly.
