Scheduled Maintenance (SM)

The objective of this maintenance is to keep the equipment in clean, presentable appearance in proper functioning condition. The maintenance schedules are prepared in the beginning of the year in such a way that the schedules would least affect the production. Once these schedules are approved and agreed by the production department and PEM, irrespective of the condition of the machine, it is taken up for the maintenance as per the schedules. A few functions of this maintenance system are enumerated hereunder.

  • Using protective coatings to retard wear and tear on the machine.
  • Cleaning of parts, which are subjected to intensive wear due to dirt/dust arising out of operating process.
  • Testing electric/electronic/chemical equipment.
  • Lubrication or replacement of oil, etc.
  • Adjustment or accuracy checking so that the jobs produced is within the tolerance limits.
  • Whitewashing, cleaning of tanks, etc.
  • Cleaning of Boilers.

This maintenance is adopted on the equipment where it effects the production adversely, e.g. generators, painting, air compressor, A/C units, dusts extractors, blowers, etc. These cannot be planned in the regular working hours as the standby is not available and not affordable. Hence this should be scheduled in a time such that it will not affect the production.
