Multiple-Hearth Furnace

It consists of a steel shell the interior of that is divided into a series of hearths. The sludge is fed through the furnace roof through a screw-feeder or a belt and flapgate. Rotating rabble arms and rabble teeth push the sludge across the hearth to drop holes, while it falls to the following hearths and continue downward until sterile phosphate-laden ash is discharged at the bottom.
