Thermal Fatigue

It is normal in operation that the temperatures imposed upon a body will change. Such changes will cause alternating thermal gradients and therefore alternating stresses. These changing stresses shall create fatigue effects in thermal. This phenomenon is referred to as thermal fatigue. The alternating thermal gradients induce quite high stresses and coupled with deteriorating effects of high temperature, thermal fatigue might cause failure of material in short time. Though, the frequency of temperature changes is quite low, and falls in category of high strain low cycle fatigue.
