Planctomycetes Assignment Help

Assignment Help: >> The major prokaryotic groups - Planctomycetes

Planctomycetes

The Planctomycetes lack a peptidoglycan cell wall but instead rely on a well developed S-layer   for rigidity.  They  are  characterized by  a  stalk  for  attachment to  surfaces  and   divide   through  budding rather  than  binary fission.   Although there is little doubt in which members of the phylum are prokaryotes, their genomic material is bounded through a membrane. The Anammox organism Brocadia also has a true organelle in the form of the anammoxosome, where the anaerobic oxidation of ammonia to molecular nitrogen is carried out.
