Excavata
Until recently this assemblage was less well supported than the archaeplastida, but recent analysis that excludes rapidly evolving taxa places them as a monophyletic super- group containing the euglenozoa, heterolobosea, kinetoplastids, and a recently erected phylum, the fornicata. The group includes many significant human and animal parasites, many of which have anaerobic or microaerophyllic lifestyles, and also the photosynthetic euglenids.
