Development of a Surface:
If a solid is wrapped with thin paper in that way like the paper does not contain wrinkles and also it is not overlapping anyplace, then remove the paper and spread it on a plain surface. The shape of the paper is named as the lateral development of that solid or pattern. If the development of the bottom and the top of the solid is also involved, then it is named as the total development of the surface.
Because of the fact as there in the process of development, is no distorting of the surface, every line on the development should necessarily signify the true length of the corresponding line on the surface. This is a coordinal principle that must always be remembered always in constructing all the true developments.
