Types of Stress:
Stresses occur in any material which is subject to a load or any applied force. There are several categories of stresses, but they could all be commonly categorized in one of six types: residual stresses, pressure stresses, structural stresses, flow stresses, fatigue stresses, and thermal stresses.
Residual stresses:
Residual stresses are because of the manufacturing procedures which leave stresses within a material. Welding leaves residual stresses in the metals welded. Stresses related along with welding are additional discussed later in this module.
