Springs:
Springs are generally used to control shocks and vibrations. These are adopted in automobiles and railway buffersete. They are classified like as helical springs and leaf springs. Helical springs are formed by coiling a wire into a helix. When the helix angle is less than 18o, it is called close coiled helical springs. While the helix angle is significant it is known as open coiled helical springs.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you should be able to
- understand the distinct types of springs,
- find the stresses, deflection and stiffness of springs, and
- design the springs.
