Assignment Help: >> Strains - Wire Wound Pipes

Wire Wound Pipes:

In order to resist large internal pressures in a thin cylinder, it shall be wound closely with a wire. These are called as wire wound pipes. The tension binding the cylinder in the wire shall create primary compressive stresses in the pipe before applying the internal pressure. Therefore, on application of the internal pressure, the cylinder & the wire jointly resisted the bursting force. In the wire the final stresses or the cylinder shall be the sum of the initial stresses because of winding and the stresses induced because of the application of internal pressure. The relation among the stresses in the wire and cylinder are attained by considering the strain at the common surface of the shell and the wire which must be the simialr for both.
