Stone Masonry
Construction Practices
Bureau of Indian Standards has laid detailed rules regarding construction practices. Therefore, in common, following principles within this regard are in sequence:
Mortar for Joints
Similar types of mortars are used within stone masonry as in the case of brickwork. Commonly, good quality stonework is established in cement mortar 1: 3.
Curing
All faces of the masonry work should be kept moist for a minimum period of seven days.
Scaffolding
Although single scaffolding could be permitted for rubble masonry, it would be preferable to have double scaffolding for coursed rubble masonry of first sort.
In that case of ashlar work, only double scaffolding should be allowed.
