Limitations:
The given below are the limitations of lightweight concrete:
(a) The depth of carbonation, i.e. the depth within which corrosion can occur under appropriate conditions, is nearly twice than that of normal concrete. Therefore, special care will have to be taken to provide sufficient cover to the reinforcement of the lightweight structures to take protection against corrosion.
(b) As compared to the ordinary concrete the lightweight concrete has less strength.
(c) The lightweight concrete generates a harsh mix; therefore it is of low workability.
(d) Mixed design procedures are not well established for the lightweight concrete.
