Example of Quotas
Let consider the given example.
For enable group quota support on a file system, the grprquota has to be added to the fourth field holding the word "defaults as display in the given example:
Modify /etc/fstab
# vi /etc/fstab
/dev/device /dir/to/mount ftype parameters fs_freq fs_passno
/dev/hda6 /home ext2 defaults, grpquota 1 1
where:
/dev/device - this Is the device to be mounted, for example, /dev/hda4.
/dir/to/mount- this Is the location at that the file system should be mounted on the directory tree.
Ftype - this Is the file system type. That should be 4.2 under Sun Operating System, ufs under Solaris, ext2 under Linux, nfs to NFS mounted file systems, swap for the swap partitions and proc for the /proc file system. A few operating systems, like as Unix, support further filesystem types, thus they are not as likely to be used.
Parameters - Are the parameters we passed to enable the quota using the usrquota, grpquota option. They follow the similar comma-delineated format. An instance entry would look such as usrquota, grpquota.
fs_freq - Is used through dump to determine whether a file system required to be dumped.
fs_passno - Is used through the fsck program to determine the order to check disks at boot time.
Create quota record "quota.group"and "quota.user" Both the quota record files, quota.group and quota.user, should be owned through root, and read-write permission for root and none for anybody else. Login as root. It Go to the root of the partition for that quota has to be enabled, and then create quota.group and quota.user.
