Standard Component Sizing
Software is composed of a number of various standard components which are generic to a particular application field for example the standard components for an information system are modules, subsystems, screens, reports, interactive programs, LOC, batch programs, files, and object level instruction. The project planner estimates the number of occurrence of each standard component then uses historical project data to determine the delivered size per standard parts. To describe consider an information systems application, the planner estimates which 18 reports will be generated. Historical data indicates which 967 lines of COBOL are needed per report. This enables the planner to estimate that 17,000
LOC will be needed for the reports component. Same calculations and estimates are made for other a combined size value results and standard components.
