Melding the Problem and the Process
Project planning will starts with the melding of the process and the problem. Each function to be engineered through the software team must pass by the collection of framework activities which have been described for a software organization. Suppose that the company has adopted the following set of framework activities.
- Customer communication - the tasks required to built effective communication among customer and developer
- Planning - the tasks required to describe timelines, resources, and other project related information.
- Risk analysis - the tasks required to assess technical and management risk both
- Engineering -the tasks required to develop one or more representations of the application
- Construction and release - the tasks required to test, construct, install, and give user support.
- Customer evaluation - the tasks required to obtain customer feedback which is based on evaluation of the software representations build during the engineering stage and implemented during the installation stage.
The team members who will work on each function will apply each of the framework activities to it. In essence a matrix same which is given in the figure is created. Each major problem function is defined in the left hand column. Framework activities are defined in the top row. Software engineering work tasks would be entered in the various rows. The job of the project manager is to be estimate resource requirements for each cell start, matrix, and end dates for the tasks related with each cell and work products to be produced as a consequence of each cell.
