Software Configuration Management

The Software configuration management is an umbrella activity which is applied by the software procedure because change can occur at any time SCM activities are builder to

(1) Identify change

(2) control change,

(3) Ensure which change is being properly implemented or

(4) Report change to another who may have an interest.

It is important to make a clear distinction among software configuration and software maintenance management. The Maintenance is a group of software engineering activities which occur after software has been delivered to the customer and put into operation and the Software configuration management is a group of control activities and tracking which starts when a software project starts and terminate only when the software is taken out of operation.

A main motive of software engineering is to get better the ease with that changes can be reduce and accommodated the amount of effort expended when changes must be made.
