Protein binding and complex formation:

The technique has been very useful in the study of complexes between proteins and between proteins and low molecular mass solutes. If the reactants are irreversibly bound to each other, the resulting mixture is subjected to chromatographic separation. The difficult is separated from the reactants present in excess. A classic example in this area is from clinical laboratory where protein binding of insulin is investigated. The information is obtained about the formation of insulin antibodies in diabetes treated with insulin.
