Advantages:

o   A smoother surface finish might be obtained in shell castings. It is primarily attained by the finer size grain utilized. The usual order of roughness is of the order of 3 to 6 microns.

o   Draft angles are lower than needed in sand castings. The decrease in draft angles might be between 50 to 75% which considerably saves the material expense and the subsequent machining expense.
