Serializable:

Just an object which implements the serializable interface could be saved and restored through the serialization facilities. A Serialization interface declares no members. It is easily used to denote which a class might be serialized. If there is a class that is serializable all of its subclasses are also serializable.

Variables which are declared as transient are not saved through the serialization facilities. Static variables also are not saved.
