Flexibility:

In practical circuits, an n-channel JFET at times can be substituted with an n-channel MOSFET; p-channel devices likewise can be interchanged. Though, the characteristic curves for MOSFETs are not similar as those for JFETs. The source-gate (S-G) junction in a MOSFET is not a p-n junction. The Forward breakover does not take place under any situations. When this junction conducts, it is since the S-G voltage is so great which arcing occurs, damaging the MOSFET permanently.
