Cooperation
The winning neuron finds the spatial location of a topological neighborhood of excited neurons, thereby giving the basis for cooperation among those neighboring neurons.
Synaptic Adaptation
The final mechanism enables the excited neurons to increase their individual values to the discriminate function in relation to the input pattern throughout suitable adjustments applied to their synaptic weights. The adjustments made are that the response of the wining neuron to the subsequent application of a same input pattern is enhanced.
Explanations of the processes of synaptic, competition, cooperation adaptation are here presented.
