Integrated GT and MRP Structure
The goal of an integrated GT & MRP framework is to take benefit of the similarities of setups & operations from GT & time-phased requirements from MRP. This might be attained through a series of simple steps as follows :
Step I
Gathers the data that are normally needed for both the GT and MRP concepts (that is, machine capabilities, parts and their description, a breakdown of each final product into its specific components, a forecast of last product demand, and so on).
Step II
Use GT process for determining the part families. Designate each families as
GI (I = 1, 2, 3, . . . , N)
Step III
Utilize MRP for assigning each of part to a specific time period.
Step IV
Set up the component part-time period assignments of step III according to part family groups of step II.
Step V
Use an appropriate group scheduling algorithm to find out the optimal schedule for all the parts within a given group for each time period.
