House Keeping

Poor housekeeping has resulting number of accidents in a machine shop. Good housekeeping will not just only provide safe working conditions but as well improve efficient of the job.

These accidents can be avoided by:

(1) Keep the floor around a machine free of raw materials and tools. Tripping over material that is lying on floor, particularly round bars can cause dangerous injuries. Ensure that area around a machine is neat and clean that is why the operator can move safely.

(2) Keep the floor free from oil and grease. If oil, cutting fluids, grease, is dropped on the floor, be sure to remove similar as early as possible to prevent dangerous fall.

(3) Sweep up metal chips from the floor frequently. Sharp Metal chips rapidly embedded in the soles of shoe. Sole of shoe become slippery because of these chips and further cause dangerous fall.

(4) Always keep machine clean. The clean machine will provide pleasant working environment throughout operation. Always make use of brush to remove metal chips from machines. Oily surface have to be cleaned by jute clothes.

(5) Before trying to clean the machine always stop it. If machinist attempt to clean the machine throughout operation, it may result in severe injury. A rag can simply be caught in the revolving work or part of a machine and draw the full hand in a machine. So, it is wise to shut off the main switch for cleaning purpose.
