Robot Types
A robot is a mechanical apparatus intended to do the task of a man. Its components are generally electro-mechanical and are guided via a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous, semi-autonomous or remotely controlled and variety from humanoids likes ASIMO and TOPIO to Nano robots, 'swarm' robots, and industrial robots. Through mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot might convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own. The branch of technology which deals with robots is termed as robotics. In a metaphorical sense, a robot might as well be a virtual artificial agent.
Machinery was mainly used for repetitive functions, like lifting water and grinding grain. Along with technological advances more complex machines were developed, like those invented by Hero of Alexandria in the 1st century AD, and the automata of Al-Jazari in the 12th century AD. The robots created by such types of inventors were more for the purpose of entertainment as compared for performing work.
Robots that are used in FMS are as follows:
- Cartesian Coordinates
- Cylindrical Coordinates
- Jointed Coordinates or Articulated Arm Robots
