Retailers use the ordinary promotion tools- personal selling, advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing-to attain consumers. They advertise in, magazines, newspapers, radio, and television. Advertising can be supported by newspaper inserts and direct-mail pieces. Personal selling needs careful training of salespeople in how to receive customers, meet their requirements, and handle their complaints. Sales promotions can include in-store demonstrations, contests, and displays and visiting celebrities. Public relations activities, like press conferences and store openings, speeches, special events, magazines, news letter sand public service activities are always available to retailers. A number of retailers have also set up Web sites, offering customers information and other features and sometimes directly selling merchandise.
