Standard Addition Method:
You have learnt about this method within the context of UV-VIS spectrometry. You would recall which in this method that is known amount of a standard solution is added to identical aliquots of the sample and the absorbance is measured. A first reading is the absorbance of sample alone and the second reading is absorbance of sample holding analyte plus, a known amount of analyte and so on. Same, in flame photometric determinations, increasing amounts of a standard solution of the salt of an element to be determined is added to a series of solutions of the sample. An intensity of emission for all these solutions is then measured. The curve of intensity vs. concentration of the added element is acquired and extrapolated to zero value of intensity to provide concentration of the element in the sample. Let us take an instance of the standard addition method.
