A relatively new application of flame emission spectroscopy is known as simultaneous multi-element analysis. A number of methods have been suggested for carrying out concurrent multi-element analysis. Through using an appropriate detection system and monochromator, a resolution of 2.0 nm could be achieved and simultaneous determination of upto ten elements have been carried out through this method. Further to the determination of metals, flame photometry could also be applied to nonmetal analysis through utilising the infrared region of the spectrum using flame infrared emission methods.
