Oracle8 is the first object-capable database developed through Oracle.  It extends the data modeling capabilities of Oracle 7 to support a new object relational data base model.  Oracle 8 gives a new engine which brings object oriented programming, complex business objects, complex data types and full compatibility with the relational world.

Oracle 8 extends Oracle 7 in several ways. It involves various features for improved performance and functionality of OLTP online transaction processing applications, like as better sharing of runtime larger buffer caches, data structures, and deferrable constraints. Data warehouse application will   advantage from enhancements such as parallel execution of insert, delete and update partitioning, operations, and parallel-aware query optimization. Operating in the NCA Network Computing Architecture framework and Oracle 8 supports client-server, Web-based applications which are distributed and multi-tiered.

Oracle 8 can scale tens of thousands of simultaneous users and support up to 512 petabytes and can handle any kind of data, involving text, spatial, sound, image, video and time series as well as traditional structured data.
