Transaction

Transaction in business data processing is a logical unit of work which would make sense on completion as an overall. This denotes either all the operations in the unit are done fully or none of them are done. For instance, when you go to bank to draw money from your account, the teller does a group of operations like checking your account and making entries in a group of registers or handing over the amount to you and you check the amount before you leave the counter. If any of these operations fail and then the rest of the operations together do not make sense and they have to be undone. If there is no enough balance in your account, for illustration, then the teller has to undo all the entries which are made about your cheque number and other information about your account from the registers.Transaction in RDBMS conditions is same to what has been explained above. It includes one or more of the database operations like insert, delete or update, that are either done together, are done lastingly in the database or none of the operations are done.

RDBMS provides powerful commands to simulate a real life transaction with the database. So, you required not strike out or undo manually if one of the operations go incorrect. You can rather use easy commands like ‘ROLLBACK’ to automatically undo those operations which are category of the incomplete transaction. In other words to make permanent the operations of a transaction you can easily use the ‘COMMIT’ command. The transaction is initiated as well as ended through either committing or rolling back.
