Suspended Particles:

The suspended particles in the water may be in the form of suspended clay or silt particles. Strength of concrete is not much affected through suspended particles. If these particles are more than 0.02 percent by weight of water, it may considerably affect the other properties of cement/concrete such as setting and hardening properties, bond features, etc. Indian standard [IS: 456 - 2000] recommends the maximum permissible limit of suspended particles as 2000 ppm (i.e. mg/lit). The best way to use the water with high amount of suspended particles is to allow the water to stand in settling basins for sufficient time before it is mixed with the concrete ingredients.
