Electroplating

Electroplating might be described as a process of covering a surface of object generally metallic along a thin adherent coating of the similar or other metal by electrolysis. The form & details of the original part are reached.

Essential elements of plating process are the, anode, cathode, electrolyte, and direct current at low voltage. The solution itself has dissolved salts of the metal to be plated that means of coating metal. In order to enhance its conductivity, other chemicals that shall help ionization are added up. As the current is passed through the circuit metallic ions migrate to the cathode and upon losing their charge, are deposited like as metal. Plating metals are chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, cadmium, and tin. The precious metals such like, gold, silver platinum and rhodium are also utilized for plating. Chromium plating is extensively used due to its pleasing appearance and its resistance to corrosion and wear. Aqueous solution called electrolytes, utilized in electroplating are designated as neutral, acid and alkaline baths. The acid bath is utilized extensively for low cost plating whereas the neutral bath is utilized in the plating of nickel. The alkaline bath makes a dense, fine grain deposit that might be made highly reflective and smooth.
